Ada’s doctoral research examines the pedagogical conditions that shape clinical readiness in undergraduate nursing education — asking why the gap between what students learn in the classroom and what they encounter on the ward remains so persistently wide, and what evidence-based interventions can close it.
Using a sequential mixed-methods design, the study draws on cohort data from final-year nursing students across three Nigerian tertiary institutions, supplemented by in-depth interviews with clinical supervisors and faculty. Phase one maps the structural and curricular factors most predictive of clinical competency; phase two explores, through narrative inquiry, how students themselves experience the transition from lecture theatre to ward.
The study is positioned at the intersection of nursing education research and implementation science, with practical outputs intended to inform curriculum policy at the national level. It is supervised through the Faculty of Health Sciences and is expected to contribute new frameworks for simulation-integrated pedagogy in resource-constrained healthcare education settings.
